Federal Baseball League News Article | | | Friday, July 21st, 1950: López Fires Shutout in Louisville Win Salvador López of the Louisville Steamboats was on top of his game today. He tantalized the Indianapolis Arrows with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 4-0 shutout.
In the postgame comments, the Indianapolis skipper said, "He had the changeup working. You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Louisville hurler had 6 strikeouts, gave up 1 walk and surrendered 5 hits in his complete game effort.
López told reporters after the game, "To be successful in this league, you have to keep the ball down. If you don't, they'll make you pay."
This season López has worked 158.1 innings with 90 strikeouts en route to a 8-7 record and a 3.69 ERA. | |
