 | Friday, August 4th, 1950: Madrid Rips Worcester for 5 Hits History in the making. That's what the fans at Derk's Field got to see today, when Salt Lake outplayed the Whalers 8-1. Rodrigo Madrid of the Strikers came to the plate 5 times and came away with a dynamite day as he exploded for 5 hits against Worcester. In the postgame press conference the Worcester skipper quipped to reporters, "Hey, we tried to get him out. We threw everything but the kitchen sink against him and he hit it. Maybe we should've thrown the kitchen sink." R. Madrid tripled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, walked in the 7th, hit a two-run single in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th. In his stats this season, Madrid has posted a batting average of .305 with 132 hits in 433 at-bats, 20 home runs and 75 RBIs. He has also scored 66 runs, walked 22 times and compiled a .339 OBP. |
