 | Thursday, May 4th, 1950: Dougherty Strokes 5 Hits Dave Dougherty told the press after his 5-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard." Well, that's just what Dougherty of the Hood River Brewers did against the Ogden Wildcats. He went to the plate 5 times and 5 times he delivered base hits, much to the chagrin of the Wildcats, who suffered a 17-2 defeat. "Not much that I can say," offered the losing manager, "he just hammered the heck out of us." D. Dougherty singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th and singled in the 7th. This season in 29 games, Dougherty has hit at a .413 clip with 31 hits, no home runs, 5 RBIs and 10 runs scored. |
