Tuesday, August 30th, 1949: PBPLAA Names Outstanding Hitter Award Winner
This season's premier hitter in the PBPL Double A was Len Simmons. He went on a hitting spree early this season and just never stopped, finishing up with a .265 batting average and claiming the 1949 Outstanding Hitter Award.

The Hollywood shortstop battered opposing pitchers for 104 hits, 22 doubles, 5 triples, 16 home runs and 65 RBIs while scoring 55 times.

The annual SBWA awards dinner is this weekend. All of the major award winners will be there to receive their trophies for their outstanding achievements this past season.
Monday, August 29th, 1949: PBPL Double A Top Pitcher Selected
The PBPL Double A made the official announcement today. The 1949 PBPL Double A Outstanding Pitcher Award went to Ramón Moreno of Oakland.
He had a superlative season, chalking up a fine 13-4 won-lost mark with an impressive 1.88 ERA.

It was quite a performance by the 28-year-old Oaks star. Moreno logged 22 starts, threw 176.2 innings, yielded 127 hits, struck out 181 and held the opposition to a .203 batting average.

The SION Baseball Writers Association will honor all of the award winners this weekend at its annual meeting.
Sunday, August 28th, 1949: 1949 Best Gloves Picked by PBPLAA
In baseball parlance a player with good range, good arm and good hands is a great catch. Clubs strive to be strong especially "up the middle." Solid defenders can make a difference in the outcome of tight games and tight pennant races. Good defense will be honored tonight at the annual SION sports awards banquet. This year's PBPL Double A Glove Wizard Award will be presented to these standout defenders:

Second Baseman: Bill Gordon (Phoenix Sandstorm)

Shortstop: Julián Dettbarn (Olympia Sounds)
Left Fielder: Eddie O'Connor (Phoenix Sandstorm)
Center Fielder: Roland Townsend (Denver Mounts)
Right Fielder: Nelson Rush (Oceanside Surfs)
