He just cruised through their lineup, fanning 7 and walking 2 in a strong outing.
"He was very efficient and he hit his spots," his manager said. "He stayed down in the zone and stayed away from the middle of the plate."
Checking out his stats for the season, Hawks has registered 23 wins and 10 losses in 38 starts, 4.14 ERA and struck out 172 batters in 267.2 innings. |  | Saturday, August 26th, 1950: Richard Goes 6-6 Against Akron It was a parade of hits for John Richard of the Indianapolis Arrows...one right after another...a total of 6 for the day. He ravaged the Akron Black Knights for 6 hits in his 6 at-bats and propelled the Arrows to a 13-7 victory.
"Richard was really good and we were really bad," groaned the Black Knights manager. "Next time he's that hot, we'll just walk him."
J. Richard hit an RBI double in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off J. Lozano in the 9th.
This year Richard is hitting .281 with 115 hits, 8 home runs, 64 RBIs and has scored 50 runs. |  | Saturday, August 5th, 1950: Birmingham Bats Silenced by Abbott Paul Abbott effectively shut down the Nationals today, blanking them 9-0 on 4 hits, ringing up 6 strikeouts and allowing 1 walk. The Arrows pitcher appeared to get stronger as the game went on.
"I don't know if I was getting any stronger," Abbott said after the game, "I feel like my mechanics were getting better. I was able to make some adjustments and get a little more comfortable out there."
The Nationals skipper said, "We had some opportunities, but weren't able to execute. We just didn't swing the bats very well today."
Abbott has made 13 starts, tossed 132.2 innings, struck out 76 batters and walked 25.
