Tuesday, August 19th, 1958: Washington Wins Appalachian Championship Series!
There is great joy in Washington today after the Wild Things thumped Punxsutawney 5-2 to cop the 1958 Appalachian League Appalachian Championship Series. They defeated the Groundhogs 5-1 to take the series.

Paul Lowry has a lot going for him. The Washington first baseman just broke into the majors this year and now the Appalachian League has just picked him as its top hitter for July.

In 29 games last month, this outstanding rookie batted .400 with 3 home runs, 15 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

Lowry is hitting .333 in 1958 with 13 home runs, 57 RBIs and 74 runs scored. He has 141 hits in 424 at-bats and played in 106 games.
