Douglas Cox of the Key Largo Mariners shut out the Anderson Vulcans 3-0, held them to 3 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Cox said, "I could throw any pitch on any count."
The Anderson skipper called his game a jewel, saying, "The way he was pitching, it would have been tough for anyone to beat him."
In 29 starts this season Cox has gathered 13 wins while suffering 11 losses. He has pitched 222.1 innings, allowed 193 hits, struck out 121 and has a 3.20 ERA.

Tony Díaz, the 23-year-old Anderson hurler, tamed the Delray Beach Dolphins 4-0 at Anderson Grounds today. He limited them to 4 hits while fanning 8 and walking 2.
This year Díaz has compiled a 10-11 record with a 3.37 ERA.

 | Friday, June 27th, 1958: Great Stroke: Esparza Gets 5 Hits
At Ballpark of Fort Bragg Carlos Esparza was the King of Swing today in the 5-4 win over the Vulcans. The Fort Bragg third baseman stepped into the batter's box 6 times against the Anderson and delivered 5 hits.
It was a sensational game for him. He told the press, "Unbelievable feeling. It felt good. 5 for 6! It does wonders for your batting average, too."
C. Esparza singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 10th.
Thus far in 1958 Esparza has hit .369 with 15 home runs, 49 RBIs and scored 55 runs.
