Monday, September 4th, 1950: Madrid Goes Downtown 3 Times Against Grays
Fans from Salt Lake are still buzzing after Salt Lake whipped the Grays 11-6 today at Derk's Field. Rodrigo Madrid smashed three home runs in the game.

This is a feat that few players ever achieve and few fans ever see.

In a tremendous performance the shortstop bashed out 3 hits in 5 at-bats, had 7 RBIs and scored 3 times.

Speaking with the SION reporters at the postgame press conference, he was asked what it felt like to hit three home runs in one game. Madrid answered, "To get one homer is special...two is great...three is just unbelievable!"

R. Madrid flied out in the 1st, hit a GRAND SLAM off E. Escobar in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off E. Escobar in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off G. Venegas in the 5th and flied out in the 7th.

Looking at his 1950 season stats, Madrid has compiled a .304 batting average in 133 games with a .339 on-base percentage, while hitting 26 home runs and driving in 97 runs.
Sunday, August 13th, 1950: González 5-5 for Industrials
During a player's career, there are days that stand out, and this day was definitely special! Javier González went 5 for 5 against the Salt Lake Strikers at Toxic Dump Stadium and the Industrials picked up a 15-13 victory.

He exclaimed, "What a day! We win and I get 5 hits! Couldn't be better!" The delighted catcher was really enjoying the happiness of the moment in the press room.

"He was patient up there today," the Jersey City skipper told the press after the game. "I like the way he waited for his pitch and wasn't overly agressive. González has a tendency to go after some bad balls sometimes."

J. González singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off B. Ritter in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off J. Hernández in the 8th.

González is swinging at a .241 pace on the year with 2 home runs, 12 RBIs and 8 runs scored. He has played in 42 games.
Friday, August 4th, 1950: Madrid Rips Worcester for 5 Hits
History in the making. That's what the fans at Derk's Field got to see today, when Salt Lake outplayed the Whalers 8-1. Rodrigo Madrid of the Strikers came to the plate 5 times and came away with a dynamite day as he exploded for 5 hits against Worcester.

In the postgame press conference the Worcester skipper quipped to reporters, "Hey, we tried to get him out. We threw everything but the kitchen sink against him and he hit it. Maybe we should've thrown the kitchen sink."

R. Madrid tripled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, walked in the 7th, hit a two-run single in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

In his stats this season, Madrid has posted a batting average of .305 with 132 hits in 433 at-bats, 20 home runs and 75 RBIs. He has also scored 66 runs, walked 22 times and compiled a .339 OBP.
