| Breaking News | | Thursday, September 7th, 1950: Cowgill Fires Shutout in Dallas Victory "Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage.
Well, good pitching also beats bad batting.
In his postgame interview the San Diego manager said, "Patrick Cowgill made us look real bad today. He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking."
Cowgill had no strikeouts, 2 walks and allowed only 4 hits as the Dallas Lone Stars whitewashed the San Diego Suns 1-0.
This season Cowgill has worked 259 innings with 29 strikeouts en route to a 18-11 record and a 3.02 ERA. | | Tuesday, September 5th, 1950: Day-to-Day Injury Shelves Terry San Diego star closer Chris Terry was injured yesterday against Dallas while throwing a pitch. He sustained a damaged meniscus and is listed on the injury report as day-to-day. The team trainer said Terry will likely not miss too much action, perhaps 1-2 weeks.
This year in 53 relief appearances, Terry has collected 7 saves while posting an ERA of 4.20 and 86 strikeouts in 85.2 innings. His totals for the year also include 10 wins and 6 losses. | | Monday, September 4th, 1950: San Diego Shuts Out Dallas In an outstanding mound performance, Cal Ewing of the San Diego Suns scuttled the Dallas Lone Stars 4-0 on a 4-hit shutout, ringing up 4 strikeouts and giving up 1 walk.
"He's got great stuff and good movement," the Dallas manager said after the game.
"He threw a lot of breaking balls. He made adjustments. We just couldn't figure him out today."
