| Breaking News |  | Wednesday, August 16th, 1950: Palmer Befuddles Eugene "Sometimes I was smart . . . and sometimes just a little lucky." That's how Bill Palmer of the Long Beach Oilers described his shutout victory over the Eugene Tanners. Palmer blanked them 5-0 on 3 hits while striking out 9 and walking 1.

He told SION sportswriters in the postgame interview, "This is a game of adjustments and I made some good ones in this game."
Rogers held the Eugene Tanners without a run, tossing a 2-hitter while walking 3 and fanning 2.

"Gonzáles certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."
The Eugene starter tamed the Dayton Vetrans 5-0 with a 4-hit shutout, finishing the game with 3 strikeouts and 4 walks in a sharp outing.
"I enjoy facing a team like that where I can get an out on one, two or three pitches," Gonzáles said. "It gives me a chance to be a lot more aggressive."
