Wednesday, August 16th, 1950: Palmer Befuddles Eugene
"Sometimes I was smart . . . and sometimes just a little lucky." That's how Bill Palmer of the Long Beach Oilers described his shutout victory over the Eugene Tanners. Palmer blanked them 5-0 on 3 hits while striking out 9 and walking 1.

This season Palmer has a 16-4 record with a 1.75 ERA in 31 starts.
Sunday, August 13th, 1950: Rogers Mystifies Eugene
Andrew Rogers shut 'em down and shut 'em out, hurling Chula Vista past Eugene 2-0 in a complete game victory.

He told SION sportswriters in the postgame interview, "This is a game of adjustments and I made some good ones in this game."

Rogers held the Eugene Tanners without a run, tossing a 2-hitter while walking 3 and fanning 2.

This year Rogers is 7-and-21 with 4 saves and a 3.73 ERA. He has given up 254 hits in 275.1 innings with 205 strikeouts.
Saturday, July 15th, 1950: Dayton Bats Silenced by Gonzáles
"I hope we miss him next time," the Dayton manager said. "Gonzáles certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."

The Eugene starter tamed the Dayton Vetrans 5-0 with a 4-hit shutout, finishing the game with 3 strikeouts and 4 walks in a sharp outing.

"I enjoy facing a team like that where I can get an out on one, two or three pitches," Gonzáles said. "It gives me a chance to be a lot more aggressive."

This year Gonzáles has worked 145.2 innings with 71 strikeouts en route to a 9-9 record and a 4.51 ERA.
