Rodrigo Vargas of the Underdogs was unstoppable in today's 7-5 victory over the Hood River Brewers at Underdogs Ballpark. He battered them for 5 hits in 6 at-bats.
"Boy, I was on the mark today," said the Utica first baseman after the game. "All I had to do was swing, and I connected. It's a great feeling to do this. And besides, 5-6 won't hurt your batting average like 0-5 will."
R. Vargas hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, flied out in the 7th, singled in the 9th and hit a solo-shot off A. Powell in the 11th.
To date this season Vargas is hitting .280 with 6 home runs.

 | Friday, July 21st, 1950: Lockhart Puts Spell on Berkeley
Brad Lockhart of the Hood River Brewers was masterful today, pitching a 4-hit 1-0 shutout against the Berkeley Athletics and giving his bullpen a rest by going the the distance.
According to his manager, "He had command of every ball and every pitch . . . great location, too." Lockhart had 6 strikeouts and issued 1 walk in an impressive outing.
Looking at his season stats, Lockhart has won 4 and lost 12, collecting 62 strikeouts and 40 walks in 139 innings with a 4.47 ERA.

| Friday, June 30th, 1950: Hebert Fires Shutout in Hood River Win
A masterful pitching performance carried the Hood River Brewers to a 1-0 victory over Yonkers. Mike Hebert held them scoreless in a complete game effort. He permitted 3 hits, had 10 strikeouts and allowed no walks.
The skipper of the Lost Ins said, "Hebert was sharp. We never did figure him out."
This season to date, Hebert has fashioned a 7-6 mark and 3.72 ERA in 130.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .247 against him and he has logged 102 strikeouts.
