| Breaking News |  | Tuesday, August 1st, 1950: Underdogs Vargas Smacks 5 Hits! Rodrigo Vargas of the Underdogs was unstoppable in today's 7-5 victory over the Hood River Brewers at Underdogs Ballpark. He battered them for 5 hits in 6 at-bats.
"Boy, I was on the mark today," said the Utica first baseman after the game. "All I had to do was swing, and I connected. It's a great feeling to do this. And besides, 5-6 won't hurt your batting average like 0-5 will."
R. Vargas hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, flied out in the 7th, singled in the 9th and hit a solo-shot off A. Powell in the 11th.

According to his manager, "He had command of every ball and every pitch . . . great location, too." Lockhart had 6 strikeouts and issued 1 walk in an impressive outing.

Mike Hebert held them scoreless in a complete game effort. He permitted 3 hits, had 10 strikeouts and allowed no walks.
The skipper of the Lost Ins said, "Hebert was sharp. We never did figure him out."
