Saturday, August 5th, 1950: Birmingham Bats Silenced by Abbott
Paul Abbott effectively shut down the Nationals today, blanking them 9-0 on 4 hits, ringing up 6 strikeouts and allowing 1 walk. The Arrows pitcher appeared to get stronger as the game went on.

"I don't know if I was getting any stronger," Abbott said after the game, "I feel like my mechanics were getting better. I was able to make some adjustments and get a little more comfortable out there."

The Nationals skipper said, "We had some opportunities, but weren't able to execute. We just didn't swing the bats very well today."

Abbott has made 13 starts, tossed 132.2 innings, struck out 76 batters and walked 25. His record is 12-5 with a 3.12 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .220 batting average.
