He ravaged the Akron Black Knights for 6 hits in his 6 at-bats and propelled the Arrows to a 13-7 victory.
"Richard was really good and we were really bad," groaned the Black Knights manager. "Next time he's that hot, we'll just walk him."
J. Richard hit an RBI double in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off J. Lozano in the 9th.
This year Richard is hitting .281 with 115 hits, 8 home runs, 64 RBIs and has scored 50 runs. |  | Wednesday, August 23rd, 1950: Phillips Guns Down Black Knights "He's got a bunch of different arm angles and his ball was really moving," said the Akron manager after watching Maurice Phillips of the New Orleans Mudbugs humiliate his club 2-0 in a fine 4-hit shutout.
"If I make good pitches, I'm going to get some outs," Phillips said after he befuddled the Black Knights. "I was making good pitches the entire game."
He whiffed 3 and walked 4 in the complete game effort.
In 34 starts this season Phillips has crafted a 11-17 record with a 4.24 ERA. |  | Tuesday, August 15th, 1950: Akron Reliever Out The Akron Black Knights will lose the services of reliever Bret Compton after he sustained a damaged meniscus while throwing a pitch in today's game against the Seattle Rainiers. When asked about the injury, he took a philosophical approach. "Worse things can happen in life," Compton said. "The key now is to stay positive." His trainer said he is expected to be sidelined for the next 2 weeks.
